I recognized that in order for me to understand my Ancestry and Cultural Heritage I had to immerse myself in it. Moving to Japan just made sense. I’ve had a bit of time now to think about this and where in Japan should I settle. I have been to Japan several times now, each time exploring, discovering something new and exciting in each and every new city, town or village.
It will be my home but it will also be my studio (as I would like to continue my design work) and a place for family, friends and guests to come visit, stay in hopes they will also learn more about Japanese Culture, let’s call it a Cultural Retreat. I also want to find a place where I can be part of a community, helping and learning to be part of it.
I will be looking for a Kominka (old home) or adaptively repurposing some historically significant structure, using my background as an Architect to use. My initial thoughts are to look in the Kanazawa, Kyoto and Shikoku areas however open to other potential opportunities.
