Gifu has always been a place that I have wanted to visit as it has many Cultural Heritage elements within the Prefecture. Immediately upon exiting the train station in Hide Takayama and checking into my Hotel, I knew that my 3 day stay there would be something special.
- Little did I recognize, my hotel had an Onsen (country hot spring)!
- Historic District
- Hida Folk Village consists of more than 30 relocated Gossho Style thatched roof houses that demonstrate how Artisans worked on traditional arts and crafts.
- Old Private Homes District consists of about 3 streets that is mostly untouched from the Edo and Meiji Periods
- Crafts
- Thread, Lacquer, Leather, Wood, Clay, Paper Crafts are all instrumental to Takayama and were demonstrated with elements throughout my Hotel.
- I was able to visit Museum Hida, a museum dedicated to Wood Craft and its importance to HidaTakayama and Japan.
There is a wealth of Culture and History in Takayama, too much to see in just 3 days and will be back soon.
Next stop Kanazawa. Check back for future blogs and follow me on Instagram @shimazustudio for more Japan Travel content.
