I’m a third generation (Sansei) born and raised in the United States. My grandparents were born and lived in Esumi, Wakayama, Japan. Immigrated to the United States in the every early 1900’s looking for new opportunities.
As I grew up in the United States I continue to understand who I am, my outlook on life, why do I do things in a certain way.
I continue to investigate my ancestry documenting it as I gather more information.
I search to understand who I really am.
My first trip to Japan was in 1989 and I returned in 1991 with the birth of my daughter in Fukuoka. These first trips was the first exposure to Japan and the secrete to elements to who I am.
I have since traveled to Japan on three additions occasions now.
Visiting my Grandparents birthplace, obtaining their Koseki and visiting the area in which they lived.
As I continue to explore my Culture it has become clear to me what it is a reflection of who I’m.
